Newborn Session FAQ’s

When is the best time to photograph my baby?

I photograph the newborns between 5-15 days. They can be done outside that window, however they can more alert and a little less tolerant of being posed. For the curled up sleeping poses you see on my site 5-15 days is ideal.

When should I contact you to schedule?

It is best to get your session penciled in 6-12 weeks PRIOR to your due date. As I only take a limited number of newborns per month, It is best to schedule early.

How do we schedule when we don’t know exactly when baby will arrive?

We will pencil in your session approximately 1 week after your due date. Once baby arrives, I ask that you contact me (a text is fine) letting me know that your little one has arrived so that we can confirm the session or move it if necessary.

Can we replicate photos that I found on Pinterest?

While I love looking at other photographer's work for inspiration, I will not copy exactly someone else's work. That is their cremation and their artwork. I am hoping you are hiring me for my own style and creativity. Additionally, not every baby will do every pose and safety is my main concern. Once you schedule with me, I send you a questionnaire that will help me to get a sense of your “style”; your likes and even your “dislikes”. You can even send me “Inspo images”. I look forward to creating unique, timeless and beautiful images that you can cherish for a lifetime. Feel free to browse my website, facebook and Instagram pages as well.

Can I download the images from my gallery?

Not unless your session includes digital files (most do not). Your gallery is how you view and order the images. You can order digital files, Prints, album, or packages.

Is there a minimum purchase from my gallery?

No. On Average Clients spend between $500-$2500 or pictures/products from their session. I also offer 6 month interest free financing through PayPal credit.

How long will my gallery be online?

2 weeks. During this time you will choose the images for your announcements and any prints, files, or products you would like to order. If you need help deciding or if you want me to create a custom package for you- just let me know! I want to make sure my clients get exactly what they want out of their session- Hopefully that is beautiful wall art and/or album to have tangible beautiful products from your session.

Is there a deposit to reserve my session?

Yes. There is a 50% deposit required to book your session This will guarantee you a session within the 5-15 day window once your baby arrives.

Is there more of a selection if we do them at your studio?

No. I have been doing the in-home newborn sessions for 23 years. I only recently began offering the studio newborn sessions. All of my newborn equipment/props and accessories are kept in my prop building on my home property, so all of the same things are available for home sessions. The Exception would be if you wanted a more “lifestyle session” as the studio has a ton of natural light, floor to ceiling windows with white sheer curtains, and a beautiful white shooting area with bed, sofa, etc…

If I am having my son circumcised, will that affect the session date?

When possible, it is best to do the session prior to the circumcision. If not, generally 5 days or more after is best to allow time for baby to heal and assure he will not be uncomfortable.

Can I have other family members or friends there to watch the session?

I do not recommend it. A calm, peaceful environment is best for the newborn session. It helps the baby remain calm and peaceful for the session. The in-home session includes parents and sibling portraits; If you are going to do them, we do them at the beginning of the session and it is encouraged the siblings have somewhere else in the home to go for the duration of the session. If you are wanting portraits with extended family please discuss this with me prior to your session.

Do I need to buy anything to have for the session- hats, headbands, etc…?

No. If you have a special family heirloom you would like to include, you are welcome to have them for the session. We may not use all of the items but I will let you know what will work best. I have a large selection of beautiful props, hats, outfits etc. to use with newborn sessions.

What is the turnaround time?

About 2 weeks after your session your gallery will be available to view. You will receive an email with a link, password and all the details.
